Give the gift of a new best friend

These life-like companion pets are specially designed to help reduce anxiety, loneliness and depression for the elderly, especially those living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Adopt a furry friend today to be delivered to a senior in need in one of the long-term care homes we support or to an isolated senior at home through one of our community partnerships.

There’s nothing as comforting as the happy wagging of a dog’s tail, or the contented purr of a kitten. These cuddly critters are specially designed for seniors, and have been shown to reduce stress, loneliness and depression. They are particularly beneficial for those living with advanced dementia or Alzheimer’s, helping them remember previous pets they’ve owned, or the sense of purpose that caring for an animal gave them.
And now – with your help – deserving seniors can have a furry best friend of their very own. When you adopt a companion pet, you receive a special certificate by mail commemorating your adoption, along with a charitable tax receipt for your gift.

Can’t afford to adopt a pet? Contribute to a group adoption! Give what you can and we will combine donations to fund a full adoption for a resident in need!

“I was so grateful to received a cat from Eldercare.

When I opened the box, I couldn’t believe how beautiful she was.

I held her immediately and thought, I’m going to name her Cuddles.”

Delores Dallas received her cat thanks to a partnership between Eldercare and Oak Bay Volunteer Services. Read more.

Eldercare launched a new partnership with Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society and Our Cowichan Communities Health Network to distribute robotic companion pets in the Cowichan community in 2024. The pilot project is part of our commitment to support aging in place for seniors across Vancouver Island.
