Why are some seniors at the Priory struggling?

What gives your life meaning? Your family and friends? Your job or hobbies? Or perhaps the ability to live your life on your own terms?

These are precisely the things that most seniors moving into long-term care have lost. By the time the average senior moves into long-term care, they:

  • Are in their 80s and have outlived many of their family and friends.
  • Have battled two or more chronic illnesses – diseases like dementia, heart disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis – for years, perhaps decades, losing many of their mental and physical abilities along the way.
  • Have little in savings. Their illnesses came with a litany of bills like home support, medications, medical equipment, and mobility aids. Fewer and fewer seniors have the finances to keep up.

It’s little wonder that loneliness and depression are so common, despite the excellent care that seniors receive at the Priory, including expert nursing, daily meals, and round-the-clock support.

Fortunately, your donation can make the difference. Donations to Eldercare Foundation provide Priory residents with:

  • Therapy programs like music, art, and gardening, that help restore confidence and a sense of purpose
  • Exercise equipment that help maintain mobility and a sense of independence
  • New technology for dementia care, including robotic companion pets that help seniors in care combat feelings of loneliness
  • Entertainment and social programs that bring enjoyment, and create new opportunities to make friends
  • Personal care items like clothes, dentures, hearing aids and glasses that a growing number of seniors in care can’t afford

And so much more!
