Supporting education and research to enhance care for older adults has been a hallmark of Eldercare Foundation for decades.
We offer awards, scholarships, and educational funds for professional caregivers and medical staff within Island Health, as well as students at the University of Victoria and Camosun College.
Last November, Camosun College graduate Keiko Okubo received a Health Care Assistant (HCA) Award from Eldercare Foundation.
Keiko and her family relocated to Victoria from Japan five years ago, and her journey was marked by various challenges. Determined to make a positive difference, she enrolled in the HCA program. She now is proud to hold an HCA position at Gorge Road Hospital.
“l am truly honored to have received this award,” says Keiko. “Your generosity made a significant impact on my life. Your support has not only eased the financial burden but has also encouraged me to pursue a career that brings joy and fulfillment to my life.”
Like all of us at Eldercare, Keiko is a big proponent of lifelong learning and is eager to gain more experience and eventually become a care coach. “I have long been an educator and I would love to play a role in educating future HCAs, be part of a collaborative team environment, and ensure the best possible care for our clients.”
We extend our congratulations to Keiko and all our recent award recipients who are dedicating their lives to enhancing care for seniors in our community. Click here to learn more about our awards.
